I was born and raised in Long Beach California (a suburb of Los Angeles) and moved to Iowa with my wife and children 9 years ago. I know. I know. Why would I leave? I get asked this question a lot. Here is the short answer. Growing up in California I have seen the state go through a lot of changes and become more and more expensive, more polluted, and more overcrowded (I can go on and on). In addition, waking up and getting on the freeway with 3 million others gets old, being able to see the air you breathe gets old, and believe it or not 80° on Christmas gets old as well.
But why Iowa?
Well, I have traveled to 42 states and spent quite a bit of time in Iowa both for work and pleasure. The people are very friendly, the air is clean, there is no real overcrowding (subjective I know), and the cost of living is really good. Oh, and did I mention my wife of 14 years was born and raised in Iowa and the majority of her family still resides in Iowa. As a side note, my mom and dad followed suit a year later and moved to Iowa as well.
Upon arriving in Iowa I worked at Price Electric as a division manager for their low voltage division HITECH Communications and my wife continued her career in real estate by getting her real estate license for Iowa. She had originally become a licensed REALTOR in 2002 in California but it was always in her blood. Her grandfather was a licensed REALTOR along with her mom. She told me stories about when she was around 5 she would sit at her grandfather's desk looking at blueprints and talk to make-believe clients about their needs and wants. I always could tell she was passionate about helping people with their life's biggest investment and her eyes would light up anytime I would ask a question about real estate.
So after 30 years in the same field of work, I decided it was time for me to explore a more fulfilling career. The choice was easy. All I had to do was look into my wife's eyes to know that real estate and becoming a REALTOR was a fulfilling career. So I made the leap. There is not a day that I question if I made the right decision. I have joined my wife's team which has now grown and wake up in the morning thinking about how can I help someone's dream come true today.
